How do I contact CSX or Norfolk Southern about their Conductor Training Programs?

March 2, 2010 - 7:12 am 6 Comments

I see no contact info on their websites for the programs. How do I sign up?

This website will give you information on CSX’s conductor training program:
http://www.csx.com/?fuseaction=careers.conductor

If you go to this website:
https://careers.csx.com/

you can then go to "Create a resume" and it will prompt you for an email address and password, and you can then enter in your details and start a search for positions near you. I know that I looked in here originally, but I only used it to look to see if there was anything in my area. I first responded to a CSX job-wanted ad in the local newspaper.

When you go to do a search, don’t check off anything in Job Categories, just enter in "Conductor" for the search word and openings will appear that you can view and apply for. I only see openings in Richmond, VA at the moment, but check back later and see if any openings are added later.

You have to start as a trainman, but depedning on traffic and staffing requirements, you will be offered a chance to promote to conductor, sometimes they are promoting new hires directly to conductor at the same time they take their brakeman/switchman classes.

I thought they would have a human resources number listed.
call thier toll free number and ask what the human resources number is
anyone should be able to help

    good luck

Railroads don’t hire conductors directly off the street. Union work rules require you to hire on as a train crew member, serve you time doing on the job training, and maybe after you’ve been there for, say, 15 years a Conductor position may come open under a seniority bid provision.

You now have to be hired by CSX or NS before you can go to their Conductor training programs. You have to go to their websites, fill out a resume, and then apply to all the positions that interest you. They will then sort through the applications, and if yours catches their eye, they will contact you to take some written tests and, if you pass, an interview. It’s not always very quick either. Some jobs, they will post months in advance of hiring. Railroads hire on estimated future needs, usually not what they need that day. I interviewed in Dec. of 2007 for a track worker’s position. Just got called yesterday with the job offer(10 months later).
