Is elimination communication really training the baby..or the parents?

do the babies usually potty train earlier?

It’s a partnership, so some of both. It starts out as all the parents, and over time that transfers to the child.

I’d rather be trained to take my baby to the potty when he squirms than trained to change poopy diapers. Both my children routinely pooped only in the potty by the time they could walk, and were done with diapers before they were two.

Babies potty train when they are ready. They should not be forced to.

Probably the parents, but if it’s enjoyable and relaxed there is absolutely no harm.

I’m sure it moves from the parents to the child (training that is). With my son (we did potty learning, not elimination communication), when he was 2 we reminded him to go to the potty and basically we made sure he got there when he needed to go (a lot like EC). At some point, he began to tell us when he peed a little and then stopped it and went to the potty. Then moved onto going to the potty before peeing a little. I imagine there is a similar course of events with EC.

We did not do EC, but friends of mine who did all had there babes completely potty trained by 18 months or 2 years old. It all seemed very natural. (I just don’t think I have the time)

The baby isn’t really being potty trained with EC, it’s more for environmental sakes and whatnot (at least from what i have read).

But I think with EC, they are trained earlier. Usually by one.

It’s a mix of both. From what I’ve read, it seems like it all begins by the parent being more involved with the baby. The parent understands the baby’s cues that they are about to potty. Soon, though, the baby communicates that they need to potty.
