How much do dog training courses cost?

April 27, 2010 - 11:34 am 4 Comments

I’m trying to train a German Shepherd to be a good guard dog.

P.S live in FL

Depends on what kind of training, the location, and who you take them too. You may be looking at $150 or you may be looking at $500. Your best bet would be to look in your phone book and do some calling around, or ask your vet for a recommendation.

My suggestion, let the dog be a pet and get a home security system with either Brinks or ADT.

Why is the Afghan military still such a mess after almost nine years of American training and leadership?

April 27, 2010 - 11:34 am 5 Comments

I remember reading articles back in 2002 and 2003 about how much of a mess the Afghan military was.

Back then, the officers blamed it on the fact that it takes years to build up a reliable military force, and that you can’t train capable officers overnight.

Well, okay. But now it is eight years later. And the Afghan military is still, by most accounts, a mess.

Why?

Why hasn’t eight years of American guidance and training turned the Afghan military into a model for the region?

What are some of the flaws with the US military’s training program to date for the Afghan military?

Why doesn’t the eight-year-old new Afghan military have a large corps of capable, reliable senior officers?

How about 7 reasons?

1) The "nation" of Afghanistan is really a myth. It’s actually a loosely confederated bunch of regions composed of different tribes, races, speaking different languages, dialects of languages, and so on.

2) Karzai was from the North (remember, he was leader of Northern Alliance before he got elected president). As such, he’s not that well trusted in the south.

3) Former Taliban people have infiltrated all levels of government, military, and so on. Some may just have divided loyalties, some are downright saboteurs turncoats.

4) The entire Karzai government is riddled with corruption, at least by western standards. It takes time to undo the damage done by the Taliban regime.

5) The nation has no resources except opium growing, which is very much frowned upon by the West. Efforts to introduce saffron farms is meeting some success, but it’s not yet popular

6) Locals usually have no loyalty to a "nation", but rather, would only place their loyalty to a tribe, or even just their family (and extended family). This affects the military recruits very deeply. (see 1)

7) Way too many weapons smuggled in earlier to fight the Soviets and each other, and a border almost impossible to control as most of it goes through LOTS of mountains.

Enumerate the objectives of training and what are the needs of training in management?
