DO THEY ALLOW COMMUNICATION WHILE IN A UNIT TRAINING?

December 31, 2009 - 12:10 am 7 Comments

His unit went to mainland Japan for a Marine Infantry and Artillery training in preparation for deployment and haven’t heard from him for almost a month now and I’m a bit worried. So my questions are:

1. Do they not allow communication while you are in a unit training in the Marines? I mean dont they have access on the internet?

2. And how long does such kind of training last?

if he is in the field., there will be NO outside communication. not even a cell phone is allowed to be brought in.

it lasts as long as it is scheduled to last. can be a month, can be longer.

or he could already be deployed and just not in a position to let you know yet.
yes,that happens.

waiting for ur early answers .

Nearly every major company has placement plans for Human Resources (HR). Many of these companies come to universities and recruit prospective students based on their grade point average (GPA). If you have already graduated, you have missed that particular opportunity, so now you need to start "pounding the pavement". The companies aren’t likely to come looking for you, you have to get out and let them know you are available. Choose some companies in the area you would like to live, and start applying.

Can I get some Important points to create a PPT about a company’s Corporate Training Policy and Initiatives?

December 31, 2009 - 12:10 am 1 Comment

I am not from HR but have been asked to create a Presentation like this for our US client visiting our office next week. Kindly help.

The most important thing about a PPT presentation is keep each slide brief. Use bulletpoints, but don’t load them down with a lot of copy. Imagery and graphics help round out the presentation as well.

I like to take my presentations through a sequence. Knowing what little I know about yours, I’ll give you some pointers on what I think it should be like, but give it some leeway. Start with a two-sentence overview of what the presentation is about. Break down the training policy into high-level points; don’t get into the nitty gritty details. Those are to be used in discussion and in hand-outs.

For the initiatives, you’ll want to dedicate a few pages to each one. Note what the objective of each initiative is and give high-level points of what each initiative entails. Complement each with pictures, graphics, etc. Adding color takes the blandness out of having a bunch of slides with words on them.

I hope this gives you a good start. Good luck with the presentation!

Do you bill your company for time spent at lunch during a training seminar?

December 31, 2009 - 12:10 am 3 Comments

I recently went to a training seminar. Between travel and being there, I was had 12 total hours total hours to be billed, but the seminar did serve an hour long lunch.

Normally, my company takes an hour unpaid break for lunch (so we would work from 8-12, eat lunch, and then work from 1-5).

Since I was at the seminar, am I supposed to bill them for the time I was at lunch?

That is something that you should address with your employer. You really need to check if you were not the only employee at this lunch. If you bill for 12 and someone else bills for 11 you might have a problem. They might let you have the extra hour if you were required to stay on site for the lunch. Did you submit travel expenses. You might be able to get money for your travel. If your company does not reimburse you for your mileage, remember to keep track of it and take it off of your taxes. You also might be able to deduct the cost of meals.

How does Parent Management Training for children with behavior problems work?

December 31, 2009 - 12:10 am 1 Comment

My child is acting out, especially in school. I was wondering if PMT might help us with his behaviors and if it would carryover to school. He is 3.10 and a social worker friend was wondering if maybe he has Oppositional Defiant Disorder. Thanks for any input.

I’m a psychologist and do Parent Management Training (or other things like it) with folks often. It involves, primarily, working with the parents to develop a system for reducing a child’s negative behaviors and increasing their positive ones. The main thing is to set up consequences for a child’s behavior and BE CONSISTENT! The way I do it, I start off having parents monitor whatever behaviors (e.g. tantrums, talking back, hitting, etc) they want to decrease–just to have a baseline of how often the behavior is occurring. Then parents and I develop consequences for behaviors and begin implementing them. Once negative behaviors begin to decrease, we begin rewarding behaviors (sitting quietly, doing what they are told the first time, helping, etc) we want to increase. The main thing about Parent Management Training is that it is really about the parents–not the kids. It is training parents to mold their child’s behavior by changing the way they react to their child’s misbehavior. If the parent isn’t willing to put in the effort required for things like charting behavior and being consistent (even when you’re tired or it’s inconvenient!), then it’s not going to take. Good luck
